Leveling up and whatnot...

Leveling up follows this pattern, more or less:

If your pokemon is a higher level or the same level as the pokemon you defeated, you gain 1-2 levels.

If your pokemon is a lower level, you gain 2-4 levels.

This also depends on the amount of creativity in strategy the staff member thinks you have used.
